Undoing

Hurried footfalls in lockstep
With the entry of the morrow
No more darkening doorsteps
No undesired oaths to swallow
Because dawn marks the retreat
Of she who thrives under the moon
Countless white flags at your feet
Swaying listlessly at high noon
So now your heart aches to cut
This bond frozen in midwinter
Drown your sorrows and weep but
Know this and always remember
Life does not end with her leaving
Nor will it be your undoing
